Buddha's Birthday Celebration 2002
On Saturday May 11th 2002, Buddha's Light International Association of Victoria held the annual Buddha's Birthday celebration at the Box Hill Car-park (located at the corner of Station St and Carrington Rd).

Despite the chilliness of the atmosphere, the celebration commenced with an offering ceremony lead by the Reverends of the Melbourne Temple and two other Reverends from Nan Tien Temple, which had gathered nearly all devotees and non-Buddhists alike to join in the offering, of whom they were: the laymen of BLIAV, laywomen of BLIAV, Division 1 youth group, Generation 2 youth group, special guests-the president of the BLIAV, the mayor of the Whitehorse city council, the president of the Taipei municipal council and many other guests were invited along as well.

Many activities were held during this once in a lifetime event. Activities held were: bathing the Buddha ceremony , face painting, performances, flower selling, food stalls, paper-folding lotus flowers, and many other activities.

In conjunction with the Buddha's Birthday celebration, the SBS radio station was at the venue to witness all the marvellous activities going on around them.

The Generation 2 youth group had participated in the Buddha's birthday celebration with an enormous effort, with the encouraging spirit, they were involved in various activities including: a puppet show performance, 2 performances of "Fo Jiao Kao Wo"-Buddhism Relies on Me, 4 Karaoke performances and a stall, which involved riddles, card making and paper folding, and face painting. Many games were planned for the day, unfortunately very few people enjoyed our games. But we made an effort of letting other people recognizing us, as the Generation 2 youth group.

On behalf of the Generation 2 youth group, I would like to thank all the compassionate Reverends for their strong support and encouragement, Huey-Shin and Richard Foo for their support, Division 1 youth group for their strong support in guiding us, Hui-Meen for her tremendous effort for helping and supporting us, the members of the BLIAV for their compassionate and generous help, all the volunteers at the celebration, and the Buddha for realizing his compassionate and wise teachings. Without all of everyones help, the celebration wouldn't have happened.

May the Dharma be with you always,

Shuk Chen.Lau
President of the Generation 2 youth group.
